This is a collaborated Final Year Project that highlights the importance of communicating loss and grief to young children who have lost loved ones, so they can better cope with their emotions with the support of adults.

The story explores how Ellie is affected by the loss of her grandmother, highlighting her struggle to understand her emotions and the support she receives from those around her as she navigates her grief.

BEHIND THE SCENES

My Roles: Researcher, Storyboard, Concenpt Design, Environmental Colourist

Some background/assets done by me during the project.

Illustration for the Book cover.

Idea & Concept: The main character, Ellie, clutches a jar containing her bottled-up emotions. The swirling aurora in the background represents fragments of her emotions emerging, while the yellow spots symbolize hope within an otherwise dark environment.

Children's Book

A children's book that talks about loss and grief from a child's perspective, going through the different stages of emotions and how she deals with them with the help of adults around her.

This book hopes to help children identify their emotions if they have experience loss in the family before while showing that there is always light at the end of the tunnel.

Here are some inside pages from the book~

Idea & Concept: We used colours to represent emotions, so brighter colours for hope & darker, moodier colours to represent grief & sadness. We also played around with some words/pictures to introduce to children like the word "rojak" for mix, an illustration of a snail with a 'clock' shell for slowness.

Zine

This is an informative zine for parents to read and help guide their grieving children

Drawing from various research sources, I developed a zine that offers guidance for parents, highlights signs of childhood grief, and suggests ways to support grieving children. I designed engaging visual assets to present the information clearly and combined illustrations by both my partner and myself to create an approachable and informative zine.
